About Holbury

Holbury is a village on the Eastern side of the New Forest. It is part of the parish of Fawley and is included in the Waterside area of the New Forest.

Prior to the arrival of the Esso Oil Refinery (operated by Exxon-Mobil) Holbury was a small and scarcely populated village, Holbury and the adjoining hamlet of Hardley now boast a sizeable population and a considerable number of shops and businesses a few examples of which are listed below . This growth has been principally due to the influence of the Esso oil refinery at Fawley and the area's proximity to the city of Southampton.

Holbury is also the home of the Waterside Sports and Social Club which offers a variety of leisure, sports, reception and conference facilities. The main lounge has an extensive bar and food counter, large screen TV, pool table, dart board and gaming machines for children and adults. There is also live music on Saturday evenings and various events throughout the year.The Cadland Bar, Ballroom, Bay Room, Conference Room and Theatre Bar offer various conference and reception areas, in addition there is a Coffee Shop which is open to the public daily.

In the same grounds of the Waterside Sports and Social Club is the Waterside Theatre, complete with stage and bar, it has a seating capacity of over three hundred. It is the home of the ' Waterside Theatre Company' formerly known as the Esso Music and Drama Group. They are an Amateur Drama group, that has been treading the boards' since 1950 presenting a range of attractive and challenging productions mainly in the Waterside Theatre but on occasion out reaching to other venues These include comedy, drama, musicals and pantomime.
